Studio Channel Islands DIS CONNECTION: An Exhibition Exploring the Impact of Displacement
Saturday, April 1, 2023
Studio Channel Islands Art Center (SCIART) is launching a program of visual and performing art featuring the work of eight female artists who have been displaced by global events and built a new life in California. DIS CONNECTION is an exhibition of paintings, photography, sculpture, installation, and performance art curated by Elana Kundell, Artist in Residence at SCIART. The exhibition opens at 4 p.m., Saturday April 1, on SCIART’s campus located at 2222 E. Ventura Blvd. in Camarillo. The program will include an artist panel discussion at 1 p.m., Saturday April 15, a concert by Giles Apap and Armen Guzelimian at 7.30 p.m., Saturday April 22, and a film and live art presentation by Maria Adela Diaz at 7.30 p.m., Saturday April 29.
Throughout April and May visitors to the exhibition are invited to take part in a collaborative art project titled “Lost and Found.” Maria Adela Diaz will construct an artwork made from objects that hold memories of home. Visitors are invited to bring an object of their own and place it within the artwork and record a message of what the object means to them and what memories it holds of home.
There is ample free parking. Visit studiochannelislands.org or call 805-383-1368 for full details.
